A Summer long celebration of mind, body and spirit. Featuring free yoga and wellness events throughout the state. VYW and Be Well Virginia are organized by River’s Edge Yoga, Yogis for Positive Change, the Virginia Yoga and Wellness community, Old Town North Community Partnership, Embassy of India, community volunteers and local businesses. 8:30am-2nd International Day of Yoga-Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS US) with support of ​​Embassy of India, Washington DC

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS US) with support of ​​Embassy of India in Washington DC and community organizations in Greater Washington Area, is celebrating the Second International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Capitol Hill Grounds, in Washington DC (8:30-11:00am).

As you all are aware, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi outlined a vision for the International Day of Yoga (IDY) at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). During his speech at the 69th session of UNGA on September 27, 2014, he said “Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature and a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Yoga is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with ourselves, the world and nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us to deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.” On December 11, 2014, the 193-member UNGA approved the proposal by consensus with a record 177 co-sponsoring countries by adopting a resolution to establish 21st June as International Day of Yoga. Hon’ble Prime Minister’s initiative has seen tremendous enthusiasm from all corners of the world where this Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm.

Let’s create history of Yoga and earn glory for India at the global stage. Join us in the spirit of health, harmony, and happiness.

2. Bring a Yoga Mat or towel/Sheet to use during practice. Being in harmony with nature is the central element of Yoga so please bring your own water bottle.

3. Please be seated by ​​8:45 AM.

4. There will be Free T-shirts only till supplies last so please come early, at least 30 minutes before the start of program at ​​​​8:​3​0AM.

5. There will be cultural programs and special Yoga demonstrations for Obesity & Diabetes control
