A Summer long celebration of mind, body and spirit. Featuring free yoga and wellness events throughout the state. VYW and Be Well Virginia are organized by River’s Edge Yoga, Yogis for Positive Change, the Virginia Yoga and Wellness community, Old Town North Community Partnership, Embassy of India, community volunteers and local businesses. Santanu Bhowmick started his musical career under the guidance of legendary Pandit Gyanprakash Ghosh and he has mastered Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrulgeeti, Bhajans and Folk Songs. Santanu received training in music also from the legendary Bollywood Playback Singer Padmabhushan Manna Dey. He has been performing for last 15 years all over India and, abroad including in USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Thailand and Singapore. He has performed with several eminent singers and musicians including Manna Dey, Ghulam Ali, Anup Jalota, Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Harihran, Kavita krishnamurti, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, Sandhya Mukherjee, Sadhana Sargam, Haimnti Shukla and many others. Santanu has worked as Music Director in and sung for several popular Bengali TV Serials and films. He has received several music awards. Santanu is a Science Graduate from the University Of Calcutta. He also has a B.Ed. Degree from Jadavpur University.

Tapan Modak (Tabla)

Forgive-My-Fondness---An-evening-of-Bengali-Music-3Tapan Modak had his initial training from Ustad Phool Mia of Bangladesh at a very early age. Later on he went to India to learn from Pundit Birendra Hazarika. Tapan Modak is a disciple of Pundit Kishan Maharaj of Benaras Gharana and continues to receive guidance from him. Tapan has performed through out the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America. Tapan has accompanied many well known artistes such as Ustad Khurshid Khan,Ustad Ashish Khan, Manna Dey, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Ustad Bahadur Hussain Khan, Manilal Nag, Anup Jahlota, Haimanti Shukla, Banosri Sengupta, Jotileshor Mukhopadhaya, Sri Radha Banerjee, Firoza Begum, Konkana Banerjee, Amar pal and many others. He has to his credit several Music CDs in collaboration with Western groups such as REGGIE WORKMAN CEREBRAL CAVERNS, and JEOME VAN ROSSUM – DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY. Tapan runs his own Tabla school called ‘PUNDIT KISHAN MAHARAJ TAL TARANG INSTITUTE’.
